Progress on Cables and O's

I have been knitting as much as I can on my cardigan. it is very easy to get in the zone and just knit away on this project. I have made some good progress in just a week, especially considering that I have been knitting on another project (Diamond Fantasy Shawl) and I finished a sock. It's not very exciting at this point, but I do like to see the inches of cables and lace increase.

I started my Cables and O's cardigan last week. The pattern is in "No Sheep for You" and is being knit by me in cotton - Cotton Glace to be exact, in a very pretty pearl off white. I swatched a lot so I have the stitch pattern memorized already, which makes it a fairly fast knit. Each row, though feels like it takes a while because I am knitting on 266 stitches. My LYS is hosting a KAL for this sweater so I hope that will keep me knitting fast enough to get this sweater finished for wearing this summer.

I am so happy to be finished with this sweater. So I can start wearing it, that is! I already love it and can tell I will be wearing it until it falls apart. It fits just right.

Cabled Hats

This one in Cascade Baby Alpaca Chunky for MIL, as I really didn't like the color, but the yarn was a gift, so for a gift it went.

Cable-Down Raglan

Although it's a little bit late, I finished it before the weather gets warm. And I am proud of myself of knitting this sweater. I don't really like cabling, but after looking at the FO, all the cabling time is worth it.

Yarn: 6.5 skeins Misti International Pima Cotton/Silk in purple

The yarn is very soft, but it does have lots of lints even before I wash it. As for the pattern, I love the top down method since I don't like seaming. It only requires a little seaming underarm.

Finished Cabled Socks

I have finished 2 pair of socks with cables. The first are my Aran Socks. I knit these in Louet Gems Sport wt yarn in Cream. This pattern will be available at The Loopy Ewe probably next week.

The second pair is the Mini Pretzel Twists I knit these in Wollmeise 100% Merino in the Zenzi colorway

Still working on the two sweaters, well every now and then anyway.

Charity Knitting

This little vest designed by Marguerite is my third finished garment for the current challenge at the CIC Yahoo Group. I knit it with Knitpicks Wool of the Andes bulky 100% wool on an Options size US 10.5 circular needle. Thanks to Marguerite for a nice and fast little pattern! I hope it will keep some little person warm.

Fetching Fingerless Mitts

I haven't been able to show much progress as far as cabled projects so far this year. I am still waiting for my Donegal Tweed in charcoal grey to arrive. Apparenlty the color I chose had been discontinued and what they sent in it's place was an oatmeal color. I have to go speak with my LYS owner this week to see what we can do about that.

I did manage to make (in one weekend) a pair of Fetching fingerless mitts . I used one skein of Berroco Jasper and size 6 needles. I also decreased a few stitches on the last row before the bind off to pull the edge in a little, but I love these gloves. They are amazingly warm and it was a fun, quick knit.

Elizabeth Bennet cabled cardigan done

After some starts and stops, I'm finally done with my elizabeth (the elizabeth bennet cabled cardigan from the book Fitted Knits).

All in all, this is a pretty nice knit. The fabric is beautiful to look at (the angora/merino blend makes for a very fluffy, soft material). The fabric actually is probably the most impressive part of the knit... well that and maybe the cables along the sleeves which I love! Some of the other photos on my blog show the cables which cover the peplum and the sleeves. They really make the sweater.

One thing I learned during the knit of this sweater is the impact that open cables can have on the flair of a sleeve. This pattern, as written, has a fairly wide cable at the bottom of the sleeve which stays open and creates a bit of a bell bottom effect. I did several adjustments (with trial and error) and ended up with straighter sleeves which is my preference.

So all in all, it took some time, but yeah! she's done!

Log Cabin Socks

I used 2 skeins of Cascade Pastaza color 066. I had bought 3 but never needed to break out the third skein.

I got busy, putting on the collar of Fern this evening, and finshed her up. My daugher says it's the prettiest thing I've ever made. I disagree, but I do think that it came out quite nicely.

Hey, should there be a Fall Cables 2008, I'll see you there, probably with a red Henry VII.

I finally set myself a deadline and met it! It fades quite a bit with the initial washing and just keeps getting whiter. Patrick was finished and delivered on December 31^st and Julie put it on and wore it the rest of the day!!

Wow... I am so impressed with everyone's projects! Thanks for all the inspiration.

I took a little detour from my cabled cardigan and knit up a Shedir for a friend's mom.

I'd strongly recommend this knit... pretty easy, but just enough attention needed to keep it interesting. The final project looks fantastic (according to me and the recipient!).

I have finally finished my first cabled project for the fall, Clessidra from Knitty. Although I have never taken so long to make a pair of socks before, these have been very fun to knit and I am so happy with the results!

This is a child's pullover which I knit for my 7-yr old niece. Instructions are from "Arans & Celtics - The Best of Knitters" although I used charts from the matching cardigan. I have also finished the matching Teddy Bear sweaters and will post photos in a day or two.

Annie's Butt Skirt

I still haven't even bought the yarn for Cables Milano yet.

Instead, I am knitting the cover skirt in Annie Modesitt's book, Romantic Hand Knits. In her book, she called it An Affair to Remember Tulip Skirt. In her blog, Annie called it the "Butt Skirt". It does have 4 small 4x4 cables and diagonal traveling cables.

I tried it on before I hit the lace section, about micromini length on me. The diagonal detail is really very flattering. I was worried about the negative ease, but Annie knows what she is doing.

You can follow the thread on my blog about the creation of this skirt. I modified the pattern slightly, substituting Cotton Ease for the Amaizing yarn, using a decorative elastic instead of a knit casing, and adding a lining for modesty and comfort.

Nantucket Progress

This is my current cable project: The Nantucket Jacket from Interweave Knits Winter 2006. I have finished the back and right front. I will cast on the left front and hopefully finish that this week. Here's a couple of pictures of my progress. I am knitting it from Swish Worsted in Bordeaux on 9 needles.

I knit it a little short and then stretched it for blocking. I blocked the back as soon as I finished to check to be sure that this worked.

It's taken 3 months of snail-pace knitting, but I'm finally done with my Fall Cable 2007 KAL project - Tate, a cabled pullover from Jaeger JB34.

This was originally written for either Jaeger Trinity or Jaeger Aqua, and to make my own cold-weather version I used RYC Cashsoft DK, which is a wool-cashmere blend. I'm happy to say it's worked out well - Cashsoft made the pullover a lot springier than it would have been in Trinity or Aqua, but there's enough ease figured into the pattern such that it's not too clingy. Given the preponderance of 3x3 ribbing here, a good wet-blocking is essential.

Here are a couple of modelled shots of Tate in action. One of the reasons why I like this pattern is that the central cable motif works well with open coats and jackets.

This is a very easy pattern and I highly recommend it. The main mod I made was to knit the central cable on only the front of the pullover instead of on the back as well (as written in the pattern). More details on the overall experience and my mods on my blog.

I have had a very busy semester this fall. I was going to knit a cable pullover, but I really couldn't find the time to do it. So instead of a big project, I knitted a pair of baby booties(my first pair of baby booties). The pattern does have cable in it. So, it, kind of, counts as my fall cable project, right? hehehe :D

The yarn was Bernat Organic Cotton in color Mineral Spring. Very nice cotton yarn, smooth to knit with.

Finally a cabled project. The Unoriginal Hat knit in an unknown 100% purewool colorway. It was worsted, I just doubled it and knit away! This is being given away, but glad I tried it on, I need to add about 1" of ribbing to make it longer.

I finished the 2nd of the 4 cabled scarves I am making for Christmas gifts. I used Cascade 128 in a deep pink. The pattern is from Knit Ponchos, Wraps & Scarves by Jane Davis. It's the Classic Cable Scarf but I did two cables instead of the three in the pattern.

Now I have to decide on patterns and yarn for the last two scarves.

Cable Mittens!

My submission to the KAL is complete! For my birthday, my sis got me 101 Designer One-Skein Wonders. It is a great book- lots of easy, small projects to use up yarn! I chose the Elegant-and-Easy Cable Mittens for the Entire Family pattern. My cable is a little off; when I wear the mittens, it twists towards the thumb. I didn't follow the pattern at all- I just used the cable from the book and started knitting from the top down. For my first pair of top-down mittens, they turned out pretty good, I think.

These mittens took two balls of SWS, actually- I wanted to knit each from its own ball (less tangles, and I don't own a ball winder), and I was afraid of running out. However, now I have two half balls of SWS leftover- perhaps I'll make a cable hat to go with my new mittens?

tango, knitting and cat(s)

We had all three, and more in Ashland. The tango festival there is definitely unique; I like these small ones much better than the massive mob scene varieties, such as Portland a couple years ago: 600+ people is just too many.
The last milonga here in Ashland was at the Black Sheep Pub. Very colorful and casual, with a nice size dance floor. A cozy fire, a little Guiness, a few dozen tango dancers, a DJ playing classic tango, AND one of the women was knitting socks between dance sets!
The drive home was overcast, with atmospheric views of Mt. Shasta.

When we arrived home, the cats all pretended not to know who we were, the usual treatment by cats who imagine they have been abandoned (even though they had an excellent catsitter who spoiled them rotten). However, within the hour they were begging for dinner and a warm lap, so I guess we are forgiven.
I did get some travel knitting done: finally finished the Gentleman's Socks in Austermann Step yarn for Sean.

They turned out pretty nicely: very stretchy fit, the yarn was nice to knit with and feels good on the foot. Now I need to make the same pair for my #1 son. Lots of other small gifty projects to finish, and need to cast on for Sean's Petrol Vest.
I'm also almost done with some other small gifty projects, but have more queued.

I finished my orange mitts. Theses are for a friend of my eldest daughter for Christmas. They are knit in Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock. They were fun to knit, but when I was finished I found myself twisting all my stitches on other projects. I am working on my sweater again. I had put it aside for awhile to finish some socks, but it is getting colder finally and I would like to finish it soon.

I really wanted something to cover my ears without having to wear a hat. I chose a stitch pattern (lattice cable) from the Vogue Knitting book, added a few garter stitches to each edge and knitted away. I did a provisional cast on so I could graft open stitches at the end. The yarn has some angora in it and is very soft. I love how it turned out.

I got something done for this knitalong.
These are my variation on the Firestarter socks. I did them in Blue Moon lightweight STR in a rare gem colourway.
This is a great pattern. It's done toe-up with a really interesting heel. The fit is good too. Definitely a terrific pattern if you want to make socks that are more fun to knit than just the basic pattern!

Gathered Pullover

Here is my minimal cable project, the Gathered Pullover from the current (winter '07) Interweave Knits. I used Knit Picks Merino Style yarn in "Moss" and US size 8 needles (5 mm). The cable detail in the middle is the most fun I've had knitting cables and provides some shaping in what's otherwise a long tube. All in all, a great knit. More photos & details at my blog.

Hey everyone... I've just joined the KAL and am happy to be here. Making me even happier, I've just reached the cable portion of the Elizabeth Bennet cardigan from Fitted Knits.

What you can't see the cabling yet?

Look, very baby cables at the very bottom of the bodice.

The stockinette stitch bodice almost killed me so I'm very excited to move onto something a bit more exciting now. The remainder of the peplum is all cabled and there is quite a bit of cabling on the sleeves as well.

I've been very inspired by all of your photos and hope next time I post I'll have something more eye candy like for you to see.

Cable Baby Blanket

I just finished a baby blanket for a co-worker. I made some alterations. The pattern has a few errors in it. And I didn't feel like knitting a 5 foot long baby blanket, so it is about 42" long. I still need to block it. It is knit in Plymouth Encore on size 5.5mm needles.

Gathered Pullover nearly done

I can't believe how quickly this sweater knitted up. This is the body of my Gathered Pullover, from the Winter issue of Interweave Knits. My sleeves are done, so all I have to do now is pick up stitches at the neckline for a stockinette border, sew in the sleeves and block.

Palindrome Scarf Completed!

And it was just in time for a very special birthday girl. My MIL loves her new accessory, and I loved creating this scarf for her.

I made it a keyhole scarf so it would be easier on my MIL's hands. I used size 8 needles, and Simply Soft Dark Sage yarn...the yarn was picked by my MIL...honest, I wasn't being cheap!

Finally, a cable

I am working on a cabled sock for a co-worker. The yarn is Louet Gems sportweight and it is very nice to knit with. The pattern is from Knitting on the Road - the Whitby pattern.

I am also working up some swatches for a sweater I want to knit in Donegal Tweed. I haven't seen just the right sweater, so I am thinking about designing my own. I want it to come to mid thigh, have a hood or high collar in case of windy weather, and it will be a cardigan. I haven't yet decided about tie or buttons. Here are two of the cables I am thinking about, in the two colors I am thinking about. This is the Reef Knot. I thought about one of these on each side in the front, with small rope cables framing them. (I couldn't get a really good photo, sorry)

This cable is the double X cable. Both cables are from Barbara Walker's treasuries. I thought I might use three of these on the back of the swetaer, again with small rope cables framing the larger cables.

What do you think? Is that too much? should I choose one and use it front and back? Should I omit the rope cables? Opinions, anyone? Please?

I haven't had the time to get into a big cabled project this year but here is the first of a pair of fingerless mitts I am making (minus the thumb) with cables scattered over the back of the hand. The stripes didn't really allow for a textured pattern but I couldn't stand leaving it plain. It's Lorna's Laces yarn in Pinstripe.

I have begun swatching for a cabled cardigan sweater in Donegal Tweed that I will design - more to come, soon, I hope.

Project infidelity

Okay, I know I just posted a couple of days ago that I was making the Karaoke Cable Scarf from Midnight Knitter in Gedifra Fashion Trend Stripes for my first fall cable project but I've kind of changed my mind for right now.

I loved how this pattern is working up and I thought it would make a great Christmas gift for the 15 year old daughter of a good friend of mine. Sooo, I started a new one using some Noro Kureyon that has been in my stash for several years. I wasn't quite sure what to make with it and this scarf is perfect!

I will get back to the first scarf at some point but I'm excited to have a Christmas gift that should be done very, very soon.

First Small Cable Item Finished

I have finished a pair of cabled socks, Cables Galore. The first (I think) project for me in the 2007 fall season. I knit these in Cherry Tree Hill "Sockittome" in the Spring Frost colorway. The yarn knits into a soft fabric and shows the cables nicely.

I am enjoying seeing all the cable knitting, they are all so pretty.

I started Rogue over the summer, but worked on it slowly due to it being too hot to have a heavy wool/alpaca blend sweater on my lap. I finally finished it last week and took it along on a weekend trip to Long Island, which is where the photos were taken.

Specs:

Pattern is Rogue.
Yarn is Jaeger Shetland Aran in black.
Size is 48".
Needles were US 8 for knit rows, US 7 for purl rows (and US8 for the in the round sections as well).

This sweater was in progress when I joined this KAL, and now that it is done, I can start a new cable sweater for me. I hope to cast on for it this week.

This sweater is my own design. I used the Saxon braid featured on the cover of Nicky Epstein's Knitting on the Edge, flanked with 3x3 cables to get the needed width. The yarn is Green Mountain Spinnery's Mountain Mohair, which is wonderful to knit with.

Karaoke Cable Scarf

I just joined this KAL and I'm very happy to be here. I love knitting cables!

My first project for this KAL is the Karoke Cable Scarf from Knit Pixie. I'm using Gedifra Fashion Trend Stripe in color 4612 on size US 7 (4.50 mm) Bryspun needles.

This pattern is very easy to memorize and fun to knit. I like the way the cables turn into each other. The scarf is quite narrow (3" unblocked) but I'm only using it as an accent rather than a functional scarf. I think I might make a few more of these for Christmas gifts for some of the teenagers on my gift list.

Cable Ready Bag - Update

Here is my progress on the "Cable Ready Bag" I'm making my Mom for Christmas this year. I bought the handles yesterday and chose rattan since they pick up the dark brown of the yarn that I'm using. I am so glad I joined this KAL. It's really interesting to see what everyone is making!

Thank you so much for starting this KAL. For some reason, having an external commitment helps motivate me.

I had this Fern on the needles in the spring, then summer hit me like a wave of wet noodles. I lost my knitting and blogging mojo.

October has been breathing better weather in my direction, and I'm picking back up now. Poor Fern was covered with dog hair, and some of her stitches had slipped off the needles.

She's in play again, and I hope to finish her in the coming weeks.

I'm really enjoying this knit. There's enough cabling to keep it from boring me to death, enough straight stockinette where I can work along mindlessly while watching TV! I did the sleeves first, and then decided to work the back and two sides together. For me, while off on vacation for a week in the Poconos in PA, that was great. I could work and turn off my brain!

Tonight, I quickly pinned the body section to the back of my sofa - had to be quick, before the 2-year-old twin grandsons began helping (??) me! Have a few more inches of the hoodie left to do, and that will work up very quickly.

Using KnitPicks Merlot Heather Swish Superwash. I also ordered it in the Indigo Heather colorway for daughter, who now wants the next CPH!

I have pictures of this, of other knitting projects, and much family stuff on my blog.

I am enjoying the lovely fall weather so much - it is such terrific inspiration to knit wonderful wooly things!

I have been at a loss regarding what to do with a horded stash of beautiful Rowan Yorkshire Tweed Aran yarn in Wild Plum (410).
I picked up a whole bag (ten huge balls) of this stuff on major discount last winter (because it was a discontinued yarn), for (are you sitting down?) $1 a ball; that's a veritable wealth of wool, at 175 yds per 100g ball, 1750 yards of luscious purpley tweed with flecks of green, pink and rust, for the measly sum of $10.

According to Yarndex, its jewel shades provide the perfect background for the small heathered, contrasting nubs in the tweedy effect. Its weight and texture also highlight cables and textured designs extremely well... As a singles contruction, it will break fairly easily if you pull at it, and it's a little rough to knit with, but it does make a nice sturdy garment. It also softens up nicely when washed.

Nothing seemed quite right for it, then a couple of days ago I was delving in the archives at Knitty and came across Ester from Spring 2007. Oddly, this design intrigued me when it came out, but as it was spring, my fancy turned more to other lighter fare in anticipation of summer and I totally forgot about it. Well, lo and behold, the yarn called for in Ester is Rowan's Scottish Tweed Aran, which is mighty similar to my Yorkshire Tweed Aran, and so off I went swatching.

I am getting a good gauge match with the pattern's called for 4.5 mm needles. This is a very very fast knit and I was just zooming along here until the day before yesterday. I am just about to cast on at both sides for the upper part of the body - which will of course take longer as it is a lot wider. I am sort of stuck though, trying to decide which size to make it. For the width I cast on originally, there are three possible sizes and I'm not certain which one will work best for my personal body shape.

Given the interesting construction of this garment, I get this intuitive hunch that it's not just about size, but also about shape - and I want this to be both comfortable and flattering (is there anything as disheartening as whipping up a lovely sweater for yourself only to find that while it does indeed fit, it is not really fitting?). I think a visit to Ravelry is in order to visit with others have made this up. Hopefully there will be some rather Rubenesque figures for me to see how this thing shapes up.

I'm glad I found this KAL, I'm crazy for cables. I just finished my first adult sweater, the Central Park Hoodie. I had lots of advice from the Ravelry group and the CPHKAL. I did the body in one piece, grafted the hood, short row shaping on the shoulders. I also learned cabling without a cable needle, woo hoo!
I'm currently working on a bunch of Cherry Garcia neckwarmers, and yesterday discovered I had turned one of the cables the wrong way at the beginning, so I got to use Yarn Harlot's tutorial in fixing a wrong cable.

I have some Fetchings for my daughter OTN as well. I'm catmum on Ravelry, there are pictures of other cabled projects from the past.

Bobble Cardi finished!

I finished the Bobble Cardigan! The body fits perfectly (though I still need buttons), the hood is.... weird. Too big one way, not big enough in another. Though if I never put it up, it's fine. Pictures as soon as I take them!

Finished my Central Park Hoodie

Here is my first Central Park Hoodie that I started in February. I kept getting sidetracked by other projects, but I finally finished it in order to wear it at Rhinebeck.

As you can see, this picture was taken during the festival. I used Cascade 220, about 5 1/2 skeins. I made a mistake and crossed the cable every 8 rows instead of 10, but it still looked good, so I made it consistent theoughout the whole garment. For my buttonholes, I used the One-row horizontal buttonhole technique.

As you can see from the Kid-in-the-candy-store smile on my face, I am extremely happy with this knit. So happy, that I decided to make a second one using Aruacania Naturewool. Here is my CPH2. I decided to make it all in one piece. Currently, it is about 8 inches long.

Bristow Cardigan

I´m Leandra from Vienna and this is my first time to be member of "Fall Cable KAL". Started the Bristow Cardigan yesterday, using red noname yarn (75%wool, 25%polyamid). As my yarn is thinner than that in the pattern suggested, I had to do a little maths, but I hope it works now.

So I was sure I wanted to do the Dollar and a half cardigan for the cable KAL, but now I'm not sure. I've been tempted by Mariah. I am in love with Mariah, and she is totally tempting me from every other project. But I'm totally not finding a yarn I like for it. It needs to be soft, and washable so I can wear it a lot, and a smooth wool or wool blend to show off the cables. And, for whatever reason, I need it to be green. Like, real bright green. Not granny apple green, nor olive green, but a harmonious in between. Very odd as I don't wear green, but for some reason I need it to be a bright, cheerful, not-too-yellow green. Ideas? Recommendations? HELP!

Central Park Hoodie

Here is my first cable project this fall. The popular Central Park Hoodie. And it deserves it's fame what a comfy, cozy sweater. I love it.

I knit this in Briggs and Little Heritage, the color is their Anniversary Twist. The yarn is rough, definitely not for next to the skin, but so far there has been no signs at all of pilling, this is one hard wearing sweater. I don't prefer the rougher yarn, but it's great for a jacket.

I have another cabled project on my needles, Anastasia. Hopefully, this one will be done before to much more time passes.

Central Park Hoodie

I just saw a pic of the Central Park Hoodie & have fallen in love!! I've never seen a copy of "Knitscene" in our area, and when I tried to order online, they wanted $12.+ for one mag!! Does anyone have an extra copy of this mag that they don't want, or any suggestions on how to get one? $12.+ is a bit above my budget at this time. Thanks for the advice!! June

Bobble Update, arg

I finished the first sleeve (one mistake that no one will ever notice, so it's staying). I cast on for the second sleeve... and had to promptly rip back to the ribbing. I made 2 cable mis-cross and 2 increase mistakes in the first eight rows alone. I was feeling cocky, too, since I'd made minimal boo-boos so far. But I made it past my brain lock and I'm about 30 rows into the second sleeve.

I'm looking forward to having this done in time for the weather to turn!

So I haven't started my official cable KAL project, which has finally been settled on as:

Dollar and a half cardigan from Interweave Knits Spring 2007.

But I have started this:

The Airy Wrap-Around Sweater from Fitted Knits. And it's almost done! I've only got the wraps to do, and all the cables are d-o-n-e. Word to the wise, don't try to do cables without a cable needle with mohair! Whew. For a more complete post on this project, check this post out.

Finishing up my First Central Park Hoodie

I feel like I have been knitting this forever. Many projects have jumped on my needles since I first cast this on in December. This is actually my first sweater EVER. I am proud of myself and looking forward to finishing it soon.I am making the Central Park Hoodie using Cascade 220 yarn. I am currently working on the button band, and picked up both sides at the same time. The pattern calls for doing each side separate, but that leaves an ugly seam in the middle of the hood. So, I just put it all together.

I finished a cabled hat for my daughter. I know it is just a small cable project, but there are cables none the less. The design for this set is my own, and it is knit in Twilleys Freedom Spirit yarn in the Air colorway. She insisted the hat have cables and the mitts be plain. They are knit as she wished.

I cast on one of my projects this morning: The Irish Hiking Scarf in Liisu Supersoft Merino, 'cranberry', for the Red Scarf Project. It's going pretty quickly, which is a satisfying feeling after fiddling with lace projects most of the summer.

Finishing the Sleeves

My first project for this KAL has been a WIP since January, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I've designed this myself, and so there has been a lot of trial and error. And I still need to fiddle to get the sleeve length right. This sweater is for my husband, and I've used schematic for a similarly shaped sweater from an old VK issue (the men's issue with Kaffe Fassett on the cover) to help me with the measurements. That has worked out well, except that it asks for a 20-inch sleeve. The sleeve in this picture is 17 inches, and so I may need to make it longer. But it shouldn't take more than a few weeks for it to be done, and I can start a cable sweater from scratch for me.

The front of Tate's all done, and I'm afraid that's all the cabling there is to this particular project. Contrary to the pattern, I've chosen not to have the same cable run down the back, so from now on it's just going to be miles of mindless 3x3 ribbing. I am totally loving the yarn, which is RYC Cashsoft DK - it's truly made for cables. A bit more detail on my blog here.

This is the back, and I've already gotten up to the first repeat on the front. This just may be finished and wrapped in time for Christmas. This is for son#1.
Future DIL is getting the Selbu mittens I just finished, and son #2 is getting the hat I just finished...better come up with something else too for son#2.

Joining the group with Central Park Hoodie.

I received an order of KnitPicks Merlot Heather, Swish Superwash, only 8 skeins, for a different project. But when I saw the color, I knew what I wanted to do with it, and fortunately, a quick call to KnitPicks confirmed that more of the same dye lot was available - Whew!! It's on it's way to me, so I started the two sleeves yesterday (9/23). It's working up quickly, and holding my interest! So far, I'm sticking to the pattern -- but I will probably try to knit the back and fronts as one piece, eliminating the seaming. I'm looking forward to chatting with others who are currently working this, or those who have already finished it.

Here's what I have so far - many of my pictures will have one of 2 small boys in them. I am a babysitting grandma of 2-yr-old twins, and I can keep an eye on them better if they're in front of the camera!

I am excited to be a part of this knitalong again this year!
...and I have already started it with a bang ;)

The Aran Accent Vest from the Patons CABLES booklet, knit in Tess Designer Yarns Merino Worsted. I worked on this for quite a while yesterday, and I am about 3/4 through the first cable repeat. This is more cabling than I have ever done, and I am thoroughly enjoying the process. I see many more Arans in my future.

Tangled Yoke Cardigan progress

I'm knitting the Tangled Yoke Cardigan from the fall 07 Interweave Knits. Instead of starting from the bottom up, I started at the yoke area with a provisional cast on. Later, I’ll pick up there and knit down so I can adjust it to fit. More info on my blog here if you are curious as to why I'm doing it this way.

I'm also knitting a red cabled cardigan of my own design. It will have cables from just under the bust down, and gradually widen over the hips. This is what the cables are looking like on it.
